| May 26, 2008 - Our Memorial Day ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m. as usual. The venue for the May 26th event will be the Huguenot Springs Confederate Cemetery, located on Huguenot Springs Road (Powhatan County Route 607) just a half mile south of Robious Road (Powhatan County 711). For those of you that haven’t been to this historic site, take State Route 288, either south from Interstate 64 or north from U. S. Routes 60 or 360. Get off at the Robious Road – Huguenot Trail Exit and head west for a mile. Signs will be on your left indicating where to turn. For those in attendance we’ll have the distinct pleasure of being given a presentation by George William Warren, IV. A native of Richmond, Mr. Warren attended Christ Church Preparatory School, the Virginia Military Institute and law school at the University of Virginia. From there he continued his education at the University of California at Berkeley and Harvard University School of Law. He served three years in the U.S. Army and was decorated with the Bronze Star, 5 Air Medals and the Republic of Viet Nam Honor Medal. He has taught at the Naval Post Graduate School in the Presidio in Monterey, California, the T. C. Williams Law School at the University of Richmond, the School of Law at the College of William and Mary and J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College in Richmond. He went on to become a Police Patrol Officer in the City of Virginia Beach and was a journalist for The Washington Post, The Roanoke Times and The Richmond Times-Dispatch. After a 28-year career as a lawyer with a private practice, he has now, since 2002, been the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Rockbridge Historical Society in Lexington, Virginia. One of his ancestors, the original George William Warren, was a Lieutenant in the 5th Missouri Infantry, who kept a meticulous daily wartime diary. In keeping with his lineage, his presentation at Huguenot Springs will be on the soldiers and their brave actions in the Army of Trans-Mississippi.
