Hill Camp #167, the Norfolk County Grays Camp #1549, the Cold Harbor Guards Camp #1764, the Dearing-Beauregard Camp #1813, and all SCV camps and interested parties are welcome to attend the ceremony as we remember the life of an American hero. All are welcome. Lest we forget...Patrick Falci.

April 17-18, 2010 - The Old Brunswick Camp # 512 to Present "A Day in the Life of the Civil War Soldier" on Friday, April 17th, 2010, at the Historic St. Marks Church near Alberta, VA. The Old Brunswick Camp, along with the Brunswick Museum & Historical Society Inc., will host a Living History event for approx. 175 5th graders from Brunswick County Public Schools. This will be our very first venture into the County's public school system and our intention is to provide these children with an understanding of what it was like for the soldier in the field. What we are hoping to do is break these kids into multiple groups of 15 or 20 kids, and have 6 or 8 different presentations ongoing on topics such as:

Food - how it was distributed and cooked/prepared
Weapons - how there were cared for and used
Flags - (confederate) all the different ones and what were they for and their history
The African American experience - we may mention slavery, but we will also tell the story of the Black Confederate Soldiers too!!!
Confederate Aspects - Reasons Brunswick County men went to fight....
Women Back Home - (we could really use some Lady volunteers in period dress talking about the suffering back home)
Deceased Confederates - fortunately there is a cemetery there at the church where 3 Confederate Veterans are buried - we will probably tell these men's story

During the day, groups will go inside the historic Church to see artifacts of the period and will be given a short talk. They will then have the opportunity ask questions. The Living History will be going on all day on Saturday also - OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. We will be doing a lot of advertising for this. It is also the weekend of the Lawrenceville Spring Fest. So we are kinda tagging on to that and that event, and the chamber will be doing lots of advertising for us too. What I am interested in is volunteers in uniform to assist us with this project, AND any and all ideas that anyone has to help make this event successful. The Old Brunswick Camp will provide lunch for all the volunteers who assist. Please let me hear all ya'll's thoughts on this endevour. Thanks so much, Tracy Clary, Adjutant, The Old Brunswick Camp # 512, 7th Brigade Commander, Virginia Division - SCV, 389 Fleshood Lane, Lawrenceville, VA 23868, 434-848-4556 - home, 434-848-3542 - office, 434-774-4341 - cell, brunswickreb@gmail.com or tracy.clary@vafb.com.
