It is most unfortunate that thoughtless individuals had nothing more
constructive to do with their free time than to vandalize and remove a
political sign
from a private Richmond area residence. In the least, they ignored
several of the basic constitutional freedoms that our founding fathers
fought and died
to preserve. They also displayed a profound ignorance and disrespect for
the heritage of all Southern people.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans is an international
organization dedicated to honoring the memory of our Southern
ancestors. Our membership
includes both black and white citizens of the Commonwealth, all sharing
pride in our rich heritage. Likewise, we take offense at mindless
individuals
who would distort history and the honor of our ancestors by using our
heritage symbols to spread the message of hate. Our members do not condone
the inappropriate replacement of any political poster or the misuse of
our Confederate symbols and adamantly disassociate ourselves from the
mentality of those who perpetrated this offensive act. Further, the SCV
sincerely hopes that those responsible would come forth and offer an
apology to
Reverend Mclaughlin.

Joe Lively
Virginia Heritage Defense Coordinator for
Sons of Confederate Veterans
