Dear Compatriots,
The roster of 256 Confederate soldiers buried in subject cemetery has
now been set up on our Camp's web site.
We feel this list of soldiers, from eleven states, may be of interest to
compatriots all over our confederation. Attached is a list of the number
by state.
It will be beneficial if you print the web sites in the Confederate
Veteran. You may also wish to print the pictures from the web site for
inclusion in Army of Northern Virginia news.
Robert E. L. Krick's narrative is helpful in giving background on
Ashland and the cemetery, and in evaluating the roster. Web site address
for his informative writeup is http://longstreetscv.org/woodland.htm.
That web site has a link to the roster, which web site address is
http://longstreetscv.org/wroster.htm.
Credit for this work goes to the Library of Virginia, Robert E. L.
Krick, Judy Lowry of Page Library, Montpelier, VA, Ashland resident
Lewis Mills of the Longstreet Camp for learning of this from Judy and
working with her, and Longstreet Camp web master Gary Cowardin. Also W.
E. Winfrey and Bill Thames who researched the Ashland Cemetery April
1862 burial book.
Thank you for your assistance in getting the word out to all SCV members.
Sincerely,
Walter Dunn Tucker
